We’ve spied the second-generation Honda Ridgeline before, but this is the first time the Japanese carmaker’s blue collar model drops the heavy camo that has kept our guessing eyes at bay.
Sure, the 2017 Ridgeline is still covered in a psychedelic wrap, but at least now we get to see the silhouette of the vehicle. This time around, Honda designers have left the styling exercise of the first generation behind, adopting more conventional styling cues for the C-pillar and bed upper side areas.
The prototype seen here, which comes in production-ready form, is still visually connected to its predecessor, though - you can check out the final image in the photo gallery below, which reveals the C-pillar area with the third brake light. This particular design will still be enough to set the Ridgeline apart from its US market competitors.
Going further into the details surrounding the bed, our spy photographers mentioning the bed liner on the prototype featured special lighting. Despite getting close to the prototype, the interior details remain secret - notice how Honda has expanded the wrap inside the car. An unusual method, even in the world of test vehicles.
While the spied vehicle reveals the overall shape of the car, we can turn to Honda’s SEMA Baja show truck. The vehicle introduced by the carmaker at the beginning of the month may be a piece of autoshow shine, but you should expect the front grille and headlight design to make it into production. For those of you who missed Honda’s SEMA exercise, we’ve added a video of the truck below.
With the midsize pickup market having recently entered an ascending trend, the Honda Ridgeline has quite some pressure on itsshoulders fenders.
With the prototypes having now entered the final stages of testing, the second generation of the Ridgeline is expected to bow in the first half of next year as a 2017 model.
