It was 2014 when rumors about Maranello giving the FF more than a facelift emerged and we've seen plenty of spyshots ever since. Nevertheless, the teasing should end soon, as the Prancing Horse is expected to bring the boosted FF at the 2016 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este that takes place in Italy next month.
Those of you who are worried about the term "boosted" being mentioned above shouldn't fret. Ferrari made it clear that only its V8 engines are turning to turbocharging, since pursuing a similar path in the case of V12 would require an overly complicated quad-turbo setup.

As a result, Ferrari's future V12 will get electrical assistance. While the automaker hasn't confirmed the FF facelift will use the lessons learned with the LaFerrari, the company has told us to expect a surprise with the debut of the vehicle.

Regardless, the Ferrari FF is expected to show the results of a serious visit to the gym, going from the current 651 hp to over 700 hp. The adoption of an electric motor would allow the four-seater to make the transition without simply borrowing the more powerful version of its V12 the F12berlinetta uses.

The hybrid powertrain would also require changes in the transmission department, with the FF's current seven-speed dual-clutch transmission being the least impressive tech feature of the machine.

With the FF having pioneered an all-wheel-drive system comprised of a second gearbox that feeds the front axle with power, it's difficult to tell what the engineers will do in the AWD area.

Aside from the time frame of the debut, which comes from autocar, there's an earlier rumor pointing towards a second engine option. Following the business model Bentley successfully uses with its Continental GT, the family man's Prancing Horse could borrow the 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 that currently animates the California T, 488 GTB and 488 Spider.

With the grand tourer's infotainment system falling below the overall level of the car, the upgrade expected in this field, which will bring both Google and Apple's automotive operating systems, will be more than welcome.
