After unveiling the Tipo at the 2015 Istanbul Motor Show in sedan form, this year Fiat has launched the Fiat Tipo Hatchback and Station Wagon in Geneva. Now though, the Italian manufacturer has released the pricing for the two models on its home market, and the sedan is €250 cheaper than the hatchback.
Starting at €12,500 for the least powerful engine of the lot, the 2016 Fiat Tipo Sedan is a cheap car with a large trunk (520 liters or 18.3 cuFT). The Tipo Hatchback, on the other hand, goes for €12,750 and makes do with a 440-liter (15.5 cuFT) trunk. As for the much more expensive Fiat Tipo Station Wagon (or Estate as the UK-spec model has been christened), the €15,900 family-oriented body style ups the ante to 550 liters (19.4 cuFT).

The pricing mentioned above applies for the 1.4-liter engine with 95 horsepower. A 1.6-liter turbo diesel with 120 horsepower is also available. One of the most curious differences between the sedan and the rest of the lineup is the fuel tank. Compared to the Fiat Tipo Sedan’s 45-liter tank, the hatchback and the wagon are equipped with 50-liter tanks. Don’t ask why.

As a side note, disc brakes at the rear come as standard on the Tipo Hatchback and Station Wagon. The sedan wings it with old-school drums. When it comes down to standard equipment, the entry-level Easy trim isn’t too bad. Six airbags, Hill Holder and ESP, tire pressure monitoring system, rear parking sensors, fog lights, Uconnect infotainment with AUX and USB, Bluetooth, manual air conditioning, height-adjustable driver’s seat, and so forth. The Lounge adds 17-inch alloy wheels, fancier headlights with LED daytime running lights, a central armrest, and electric lumbar adjustment.

Optional extras come in the form of two packages: Safety Plus (€350) and Tech Lounge (€750). The first of the two adds adaptive cruise control, speed limiter, and PBA (Panic Brake Assist). Tech Lounge provides a rear parking camera and a subscription to all the services bundled with the Uconnect infotainment system.
