It turns out that Cal Crutchlow was lucky after all, even though his Sunday race at the Circuit of the Americas was a troublesome one and he was also involved in a rather brutal crash.
Ducati feared the worst, namely Crutchlow fracturing his right wrist, but it turns that he was only bruised and has a dislocated little finger. The fears of the Ducati team grew as Crutchlow was lying on his back after the crash, and pulled his right glove off, doing a first check of his hand himself in the first place. Visibly shaken by the hard fall, Crutchlow was stretchered away from the gravel patch to the Clinica Mobile.

He had an x-ray on spot and is today in San Diego for having a specialist examining his hand and finger. As far as we know so far, Cal Crutchlow is reported to have no problems attending the third race of the 2014 season, at the brand new Autodromo Termas de Rio Hondo in northern Argentina in a fortnight.

During the COTA race, Crutchlow was also forced to swap the tires he started the race with for softer ones. Rejoining the race in the back of the pack, he high-sided two laps later in Turn 2. Apparently a strange vibration in his rear tire caused Cal’s crash.

“Unfortunately Cal had a problem with vibration at the rear of his bike and he subsequently crashed after stopping in the pits to change the rear tyre. Luckily it seems that the condition of his right hand is not too serious and he should be OK for the next race in Argentina in a couple of weeks’ time. After all the work we’ve been doing over the last few months, today we scored a positive result and so I’d like to thank all the guys in Ducati Corse for their massive commitment on track and back in Bologna,” Gigi Dall’Igna added.
