2014 Mercedes S500 Plug-In Hybrid Revealed
Unveiled during a small press briefing, the hybrid flagship is powered by a six-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor enabled by a 8.7 kWh battery located in the trunk. According to Mercedes-Benz Passion Blog, the 333 HP engine powers the rear wheels, while the electric motor takes care of the front wheels.
The vehicle will reportedly offer a fuel economy of about 3 liters/100km (78.4 mpg US / 94.1 mpg UK) and will be able to travel at least 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) and reach more than 120 km/h (74.5 mph) on electric power alone. CO2 emissions will be less than 75 g/km.
