A 1960s or 1970s Mercedes-Benz 280S is the kind of car that would make many enthusiasts dedicate weekend after weekend to spending quality time in the garage and on the street. Nonetheless, while many would see this as a delicate restoration project, we are here to bring you a 280S that definitely belongs to the restomod area and that’s putting it lightly.
Meet DEBENZ, a 280S that was born back in 1969, but has now traveled far beyond its German birthplace, reaching Australia. You know the people Down Under, they like to strap a massive V8 to just about anything that has wheels, from the cars to lawn movers.
As expected, this is exactly what happened to this Merc, which was gifted with a GM small block V8. As if the seven liters of displacement weren’t enough, a massive blower was also added to the mix.
We’re not sure about its exact output, but we do know it can pull 8s quarter mile runs, as you can see in the footage below. Thus, we wouldn’t be surprised to see DEBENZ putting north of 1,500 hp at the mercy of its driver’s right foot.
Perhaps certain people would’ve added the same amount of muscle, but went for a sleeper look, but DEBENZ is the exact opposite of that. While we adore sleepers, we can’t help but salute such an unapologetic effort.

The result of of the muscle under... and over the hood
The 280S may have never been as elegant as the S-Class line, but this particular example is a true hooligan. The sedan was fitted with the necessary mods for the Modified Street drag racing class and is now tearing drag strips across Australia apart. We’re not sure about its exact output, but we do know it can pull 8s quarter mile runs, as you can see in the footage below.
