One of the most respected automobiles in the world, the Mercedes-Benz W100, marketed as the Mercedes-Benz 600, has always sold for sizable prices.
Getting a cheap one can be a risky affair, but those that like to gamble usually choose an unrestored example that can be turned into the king of the road with an infusion of money and time.

We found an unrestored model for sale on Auto Trader, and it can be bought for just $42,500. The vehicle is an MY 1969 car, and it is a short-wheelbase body with left-hand drive. An exotic car specialist called Gullwing Motor Cars, from Queens, New York, is in charge of the sale.

The seller says that the engine turns unobstructedly, and that it was last running a year ago. The description means that you cannot drive away in this car without performing minimal servicing on the massive V8, but it might start-up just fine after a change of fluids, plugs, and filters. The example is complete and original except for the AC compressor.

The buyer will have to acquire an AC compressor to make the air conditioning functional again. Fortunately, the air suspension holds pressure, and it pumped up without problems, claims the company that is selling this example.

The interior needs some attention, but the upholstery is characterized as “usable” with cleaning. The upholstery is velour, while the exterior is black. The body seems undented, but some of the chrome details, along with the paint, might need a bit of attention from a specialist in the field.

Mercedes-Benz has only made 2,190 short-wheelbase 600 models between 1963 and 1981, so these cars do not linger on the market for long, and each example should be treasured and cared by its owner.

We would suggest this vehicle for those interested in performing a full restoration. The best part about this car, besides its price, is that nobody else has attempted to restore it, which is a major bonus with vehicles this rare.

While it may seem like a bad idea to restore an old car instead of getting one in a top condition, doing it on a model that has all of its original parts is much easier than attempting to fix a vehicle that has seen a few repairs in the past.
