Hyundai Preparing Custom Sonata Turbo for SEMA

Hyundai U.S.’s latest marketing scheme is aimed at promoting the recently-launched 2011 Sonata Turbo and is seeing the company teaming-up with RIDES and 0-60 magazines to create a custom example of the vehicle that will make its debut at this year’s SEMA show, which is scheduled to be held between November 2 and 5.

The company made an interesting announcement, letting us know that the modified Sonata 2.0T will draw inspiration from Ferrari, Mercedes and Porsche. The company explained that the creation will be influenced by the four-door Brabus Mercedes CLS Rocket, while the interior design will be inspired by that of the Ferrari F430, featuring a leather finish and carbon fiber trimming.

Hyundai added that the vehicle will be fitted with parts from top aftermarket suppliers, as well as custom parts from RIDES’ and 0-20’s team of builders. The list of modified elements includes 20-inch rims, a matte pearl white paint and multiple carbon fiber elements for the roof, grill, side mirrors, rear diffuser and interior trim, as well as LED fog lights.

The modifications will also target the car’s engine, which will receive upgrades for the turbo and intake, as well as a quad tip dual exhaust. We’ll remind you that the factory stock Sonata Turbo uses a four-cylinder 2.0 liter turbocharged powerplant that delivers 274 hp and a maximum torque of 269 lb-ft.

The bespoke Sonata Turbo will be presented in the Hyundai SEMA booth, while the standard 2011 Sonata Turbo will make its way to U.S. dealers by the end of the year.
