A German motorsport correspondent for Auto, Motor und Sport has either spilled the beans on a very important information from the F1 paddock or is just speculating based on a couple of insider, unconfirmed intel.
If true, the rumors would mean that 2014 will finally be the year when Mercedes-Benz' return as a full-on constructor in the F1 Circus will reap all the success it has been waiting for all these years.
Cutting to the chase, next year's turbocharged V6 from the three-pointed star is said to already make approximately 100 more horsepower on average than its Renault and Ferrari competitors.
“There are signs Mercedes is one step ahead. In the paddock, it is said that behind closed doors the silver engine has 100 horse power more on average than the Renault or Ferrari.” Auto, Motor und Sport correspondent, Tobias Gruner reported.
“Mercedes is not confirming that, obviously. But those in charge are giving an unusually confident impression,” he added, according to GMM.
Apart from the aforementioned report, another sign that Mercedes-Benz might be ahead in the horsepower race is that they have been constantly pushing for Pirelli to change the specification of next year rear's tires to wider ones, while the other engine constructors are currently more than happy with the narrower tires configuration.
Obviously, a wider rear tire package would transfer the extra power and torque of their V6 even better on the track. We already showed you how the Mercedes-AMG F1 engine sounds, but let's how it will perform.
