The facelift for one of the most popular SUVs in the US, the X3, was revealed earlier this year. Apart from a fresh design, especially up front, the new model comes with more changes under the bonnet, more than we expected.
However, up until now the facelifted car didn’t make any appearances outside the BMW headquarters and the virtual playground. Therefore, its appearance on the Geneva Motor Show 2014 floor marked another world premiere for the German automaker, next to the 2 Series Active Tourer.

The front fascia shows us exactly how the new X4 will look like, few changes being expected here. The design showcases united headlights and kidney grilles in a powerful single unit that’s meant to take BMW’s SUVs into the future.

Around the back, you won’t notice any changes and it’s the same story on the sides. Inside, the new car receives new optional features, bigger iDrive screens and X3 stitching on the headrests. Other than that things pretty much stay the same.

However, from a technological point of view, things happening under the bonnet are more interesting. The LCI model will introduce 2 new diesel engines. The xDrive20d is now using a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbodiesel unit that makes 190 HP and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque that can be hooked up to a manual 6-speed or automatic 8-speed gearbox.

The other new engine is the 2-liter unit on the xDrive18d model that makes 150 HP and 360 Nm (266 lb-ft) of torque. This unit, however, can also be had without the xDrive all-wheel-drive system, in the sDrive18d guise, with both manual and automatic gearboxes.

All new engines are EU6 compliant, as the European Union demands and all of them are more economical than their predecessors. More standard kit was also added to the mix, the LCI X3 receiving auto dimming mirrors, universal garage door openers, 40:20:30 split folding seats and ambience lighting for free now, in the US.

Talking about the US, you should know that, at least for now, the first X3 LCI models that will go on sale will be petrol-powered exclusively, namely the xDrive28i and xDrive35i. Prices start at $40,725 for the former and $45,825 for the later, with the $925 Destination and Handling Tax included.
