Toyota decided to offer a sportier version for the Yaris and installed the 1.8-liter on the small-sized vehicle, converting it into a mini hot-hatch.

Available with a three or five-door version, the little Yaris TS sparked the imagination of the young generation. The latter model not only could provide the same thrills as the three-door Yaris TS but also added more practicality to the package.

Basically, the car was similar to the rest of the Yaris 5-door range, albeit the front fascia looked differently. The car sported a lower apron featuring a mesh grille and sporting the foglights clusters on the sides. In addition, the upper grille used the same pattern but sported the silver and red TS badge. From its profile, the light-alloy wheels gave the car a more distinct look than the rest of the range, which sported mundane steel wheels with covers. Even though the five-door version didn't look as sporty as its three-door sibling, the roof spoiler enhanced the car's look.

Inside, there were no big differences between the TS version and the standard Yaris. Still, the Japanese carmaker considered adding a standard AC unit and a sound system. These were installed on the center stack and, above them, in the middle of the dashboard, the Yaris TS featured the instrument cluster. Thus, the backseat passengers could clearly see the displayed speed.

Under the hood, Toyota placed the 1.8-liter VVTI unit with variable intake and exhaust timing. The 16-valve setup and the fuel-injected system offered a total output of 133 PS (131 hp) sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
