Yamaha Recalls 2006-2010 YZF-R6

The North American division of Yamaha recently announced it is recalling 54,000 certain model 2006 through 2010 YZF-R6 motorcycles manufactured from August 2005 through March 2010 due to a faulty placement of the front side reflector.

According to the manufacturer, the front side reflector was not placed at the proper height, which fails to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices and Associated Equipment."

Due to this improper placement, the visibility of the motorcycle will be decreased, which increases the risk of a crash.

Yamaha will notify owners and dealers will repair the motorcycle free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on August 11, 2010. Owners may contact Yamaha at 1-800-962-7926 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

Since its first introduction, in 1999, the YZF-R6 received several updates, but the most notable change was bringing the Engine Control Unit (ECU) and slight changes in design.

For 2010, aside from getting the customary BNG (Bold New Graphics) treatment, the R6 includes the YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle), an advanced fly-by-wire throttle system, a revised ECU and a new 100 mm longer muffler for increased performance.

The 2010 YZF-R6 also got a revised chassis, with a magnesium sub frame, titanium exhaust, and Controlled-Fill die-cast aluminum chassis parts.

The bike comes with a starting MSRP of $10,490, and is available in Raven Black (slightly changed), Pearl White and Team Yamaha Blue/White.
