WSBK Seeks New Tire Partner from 2013

Starting with the 2013 campaign, the World Superbike Championship might welcome a new sole tire supplier into the series. According to a statement for the press released by the championship's promoter Infront Motor Sports, a new tender process has been launched for the manufacturers interested in the tire supplying role.

Infront Motor Sports, the worldwide Promoter of the FIM Superbike World Championship, launches today (Thursday 31st March 2011) the tender procedure for the awarding of the exclusive tire supply contract for the FIM Superbike and Supersport World Championships, the Superstock FIM Cup 1000 and the UEM Superstock 600 European Championship for the 2013, 2014 and 2015 racing seasons,” said the statement.

Pirelli is currently the sole tire supplier of the series, and has been ever since the open-tire competition ended in the WSBK back in 2004. However, with their current operations focusing mostly on their new contract with Formula 1, the Italian tire maker might not guarantee a continuation of their contract with the motorcycling series.

Apart from the WSBK, Pirelli is also the tire supplier for the British Superbike Championship.

The tender is open to qualified tire manufacturers who can demonstrate top level international experience and know-how in the supply of racing tires within the framework of professional motorcycling racing championships,” added the statement.

Infront Motor Sports reserves the right to evaluate the standing of the applicants before providing specific information about the tender.”
