The 2016 World Car of the Year awards are drawing closer to this year’s final stage.
The organizers of the event have announced the finalists of the five award categories. The winners will be announced during a special ceremony held at this year’s New York Auto Show, on March 24.
As those of you who are accustomed to this type of awards know, besides the 2016 World Car of the Year prize, the awards program includes four other categories: World Luxury Car, World Performance Car, World Green Car, and World Car Design of the Year.
The most prestigious accolade in this ceremony is the World Car of the Year Award, for which ten candidates have entered the final round. This year’s edition also marks the third consecutive year in which the World Car Awards have remained the number one automotive awards program as far as media reach is concerned.
The jury behind this award ceremony is composed of 73 automotive journalists. They have all voted their finalists through a secret ballot, and only after a personal evaluation of every candidate. Once every juror cast his vote, the specialists at KPMG, an international accounting firm, tabulated the ballots and selected the finalists for each category considering the votes each car got.
As usual, the World Car Design of the Year Award finalists have been chosen by a specialist panel composed of design experts. This category has five finalists, and each design expert drafted a short list of three recommended candidates. The most popular choices ended up in the final and the winner will be determined by the jurors.
