Witness the NUMMI Shut Down

The saddest moment in New United Motors Manufacturing's (NUMMI) history, the one which will see the last car and truck rolling of the assmebly lines, will be broadcasted by Toyota and NUMMI as a pool feed video footage through video provider PACSAT.

The moment everyone dreaded will take place on Friday, March 26. PACSAT will make available a video file, posted to an FTP site for media download. The video will contain pre-edited plant b-roll, a company statement and the last truck to exit the production line.
autoevolution will cover the event and will bring you the video and photos as soon as available.

And that's about all there was for NUMMI. Hiding behind words like "efficiency and productivity," plant representatives will not make any statements when the 26-year old facility will close.

"To ensure efficient production until the very last vehicle is off the production line and allow the safest and smoothest transition for our team members, NUMMI will not be conducting any media interviews when production ends. Media personnel/vehicles will not be allowed on NUMMI property," plant's representatives said in a statement.

NUMMI will officially close on April 1, with an estimated overall cost in jobs n the state of 50,000, from both the plant and related businesses. Toyota workers recently approved the severance package proposed by Toyota, with each worker to receive $21,175, plus a supplemental payment based on years of service and attendance in the final days of production.
