Window Stickers to Show Pollution Levels, Mileage

In a world where the average Joe seems to be paying more and more attention to what has come to be known as a carbon footprint, having stickers on new cars that tell them everything they need to know about the model's environmental attributes has become a must.

Responding to these demands, the US Department of Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency are about to announce a major overhaul of the window stickers you see on the cars at dealerships.

From now on, any new potential buyer will be informed, before the purchase, about things like how much pollution the vehicle releases, the expected mileage and a comparison between the vehicle customers are looking at and others in its class.

According to Freep, this would mark the first time information about the emissions of the cars would be included on the sticker. The improved information that will be available for customers should also provide a better shopping tool for those who really care for what they are buying.

The sticker industry, if it can be called that, has been very busy in recent months, trying to keep up with the developments in the automotive industry. Starting with the creation, from scrap, of the sticker for the two electric vehicle dominating the local market, the Nissan Leaf and the Chevrolet Volt, and ending with the fuel economy stickers for used cars, the amount of information available to the buyer prior to the purchase has increased dramatically.

An official announcement surrounding the new stickers is expected later today.
