Where My Kids At: Toyota Makes Rapping Family Minivan Ad

Using rap music is the perfect solution for transforming a plain automobile into one with attitude and presence. Sure, Audi’s attempts at making a commercial for the A6 Avant have resulted in the automaker being sued by Eminem’s representatives for copying his music, but we don’t expect Snoop Dog, or whoever Toyota was inspired by, to do the same.

Why? Because Toyota didn't take itself seriously and the Sienna ad is all about having fun. When promoting something as boring as a minivan, you either recognize the fact that it will be used by soccer moms or try to make it seem cooler than it actually is. We’re glad that Toyota went for the former choice, as the result is sure to sell more Siennas than even Eminem could.

The mix of funny rap lines about good parenting and a couple of adorable children have made this one of the most watched clips on Youtube, with over 9 million views.

The idea behind the clip is as simple is it is effective. The two amateur rappers talk about the day to day job of taking care of they kids, from changing their diapers to taking care of spills in the kitchen and bottle-feeding them. In the process, they highlight how good the Sienna Swagger Wagon is, and how it just seems to work for a family with kids.

Let’s be honest here: the music is very catchy and we found ourselves humming “where my kids at?” for hours. It doesn’t make your hair stand on end like Chrysler’s “Imported from Detroit” ads, but Toyota has definitely created something viral here.
