Webber Tops Second Practice in the British GP

Red Bull continued their dominance in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone through the second practice session on Friday, but this time the two RB6s driven by Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel sandwiched the two Ferrari's of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, all 4 drivers finishing within 9 tenths of a second from each other.

Mark Webber made his winning intentions in Great Britain known by posting the best time of 1:31.234, almost 4 tenths of a second quicker than Fernando Alonso's Ferrari (0.392, to be more precise). Sebastian Vettel settled for the 3rd place overall, 0.641 off the pace of his teammate, while the quad of aces was completed by the second Ferrari driver Felipe Massa.

No British driver was part of the Top 5 in P2, as that position was secured by Mercedes GP's Nico Rosberg, the last driver to come within less than a second from Webber. The German driver was half of second quicker than his teammate Michael Schumacher, completing the perfect team's triad on Friday afternoon.

Renault's Vitaly Petrov was 7th fastest, while the best placed British driver was again Lewis Hamilton in 8th place, struggling to keep his car on the track two times in the Becketts complex. The McLaren driver scored a lap time one and a half seconds slower than Webber's, while followed by Adrian Sutil and Rubens Barrichello.

Jenson Button was 13th fastest, almost 2 seconds off the pace of the leading Red Bull, behind Robert Kubica and Nico Hulkenberg.

The last place on the timing reports belonged to Lotus' Jarno Trulli, who suffered from gearbox troubles and completed only 3 laps in the 90-minute afternoon session. His teammate Heikki Kovalainen also experienced a power steering failure late in the session, at Stowe.
