VW Awards Its Apprentices

German carmaker Volkswagen presented today the 2009 Best Apprentice Award to 22 apprentices from eleven countries during a joint meeting of the Global Group Works Council and the Group Board of Management. The event took place at the VW plant in Zwickau and was hosted by the company's chairman of the board, Martin Winterkorn.

"Highly-qualified skilled employees are the foundation for our company’s success. That is why we train at all sites worldwide, creating perspectives for young people and simultaneously investing in the future of Volkswagen," Winterkorn motivated VW's choices.

The 22 come from Germany, Hungary, Portugal, Spain, the Czech Republic, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, Slovakia, Poland and the UK. They were all housed in Germany for five days, on VW's expense and they will all receive "a special program individually developed by the relevant Group companies."

"Competition for the best talents is getting tougher. Vocational training and support is therefore one of our top priorities. We are continuing to improve the qualification and competence of our apprentices and are currently introducing trans-national standards for vocational training," Horst Neumann VW human resources head said,

"At Volkswagen we are proud of our apprentices. The company offers many opportunities for further qualification. We urge all of these young people to make use of this wide choice," Bernd Osterloh, Volkswagen Group Global Works Council concluded.

And if you were scanning the article to see if they actually received something, you did so on vain. The only thing they got is the "vocational training" and the free trip to Germany. But, as you all know by now, VW is planning to become the world's no.1 carmaker by the end of the next decade, so having a head start will not hurt at all. We list the names of the 22 below. Have a look at them.... We might be writing about them in the near future.

Johannes Schneider, Daniel Straßwiemer, Boros Zsolt, João Ribas, Craig Roberts, David Cejudo Cobo Luboš Školník, Tim Klinge, Julian Breedveld, Manuel Sprenger, Christian Maiberg, Alexander Goes, Yasmin Dambitis, Marco Schröder, Teixeira Vieira Lilian, Eric Noé Bravo Morales, Stefan Weber, Lukasz Szydlowski, Sebastian Werner, Nicole Bräutigam, Milan Bagin and Keith Hamilton.
