Viper SmartStart App Available for Android

Vehicle security systems manufacturer Viper announced this week it will release the SmartStart app for the Google Android smartphone as well. Available for download from the following address, the app allows users to control the car remotely with the smartphone.

This control includes engine start, set the inside temperature by pre-cool or pre-heating the car during summer or winter, respectively, lock and unlock the doors, pop the trunk, or arm their security system. SmartStart also alerts the owners when the alarm is triggered.

"Android users are a rapidly growing segment of our customer base and the overall smartphone market, and we're excited to deliver the Viper SmartStart app to them," Mike Simmons, Directed Electronics vice president said in a statement.

“Many Android users are early adopters of technology, and we're proud to be first to enable them to replace their car keyfob with their smartphone. We've been leading the automotive industry in smartphone integration, and will continue to deliver 'first-to-market' solutions to customers in the future."

Making the app available for Android completes Viper's offering for smartphones. Available to owners of iPhones, BlackBerry and Android, the system only requires the installation of the Viper SmartStart hardware, together with a Viper remote start or security system on the car.

"The Android operating system enables millions of smartphones on all major carrier networks and across a full range of price points," Kevin Duffy, Directed Electronics president added. "With this app release, our Viper SmartStart solution is available to more than 75% of all smartphone users."
