Valsecchi Secures GP2 Deal with iSport

A very giving Santa Claus seems to have already visited Italian race car driver Davide Vlasecchi this year. The 22-year old has been signed by iSport International for the remainder of the GP2 Asia series as well as for the full upcoming GP2 championship.

Valsecchi managed to take pole position and win the first race of the GP2 Asia series opening round in Abu Dhabi on October 31. This great performance was followed by the signing of a full season contract with iSport, of which the team revealed it was just a formality as they were already convinced of his capabilities and driving skills.

Team principal Paul Jackson was the one to reveal that the whole team was certain he is the right man for the job from the moment the Italian got behind the wheel of a GP2 contender. Valsecchi’s performance in the opening round of the GP2 Asia series consolidated his strong run from the testing sessions at Paul Ricard circuit last month.

"From the first time Davide stepped in to the iSport car he was quick," said Jackson in a team press release. "He has always been a good driver but his performance in Abu Dhabi was outstanding.”

Davide Valsecchi will race at iSport International alongside Great Britain’s Oliver Turvey, who finished seventh in the very first race of the season’s opening round.

"It was clear early on that Davide fitted in very well with the whole team and felt at home with us and that was reflected in his performance in Abu Dhabi,” continued Paul Jackson.

"After another positive test at Paul Ricard in November we are delighted to welcome Davide to the team for the remaining GP2 Asia races and also the 2010 GP2 Series."
