Prices for the Lucid Air electric sedan are in freefall on the used car market, and while it shouldn’t reflect poorly on the model itself, it goes to show just where we are as an industry in terms of second-hand EVs. It’s a reality that both private parties and dealerships should accept.
Just last month we showed you a 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition Range model, which came with an MSRP of $170,500 back when it was new. What did it sell for in April of 2024? It didn’t. In fact, the highest bid (at auction) was $83,512. How’s that for a gut punch? I’m still pretty sure that Elon is loving this. His cars aren’t ridiculously expensive, whereas Lucid aren’t scared to demand Maybach money for their flagship models. But maybe they should be.
What we have here is yet another Lucid Air, only this time it’s a 2023 Touring spec variant, with 4,300 miles on the clock. It too was up for grabs at auction until just two days ago, and guess what, it didn’t sell either, because its reserve wasn’t met.
The highest bid only went as far as $59,000 on a car that originally cost more than $80,000. We’re not sure about an exact MSRP, because the seller (a dealer out of Utah) didn’t share such details. Even a brand new 2024 Lucid Air Touring will set you back over $85,000, and that’s without any optional extras like the Glass Canopy roof (which this car has).
You know what, something tells me this may have originally retailed for a lot closer to $100k than $85k, in which case, gulp, that $59,000 bid is like a slap in the face. Although, that’s the world we now live in.
Visually, this 2023 Air Touring model features a Stellar White Metallic colorway with contrasting roof pillars. It also boasts the previously mentioned Glass Canopy roof, soft-close doors with retracting illuminated handles, adaptive LED headlights, LED taillights, carpeted front and rear trunks, plus a set of 20” Aero Lite wheels with 245/40 Michelin Pilot Sport EV rubber.
Inside, top features include the Santa Cruz upholstery scheme (with Lucid Black and Ceramic Nappa leather / wood accents on the dash and door panels), but also the likes of multi-zone automatic climate control, power-operated rear sunshades, wireless phone charging, heated and ventilated seats, a Surreal Sound audio system, and a heated and leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel.
As for what this can do in a straight line, the simple answer is ‘plenty’. The dual electric motors are powered by a 92-kWh battery pack and produce 620 horsepower and 885 lb-ft of torque, with everything going to all four wheels. Floor the throttle and you’ll hit 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, according to Lucid.
The range has an EPA-estimated rating of 365 miles, although you’ll need to drive conservatively in order to get anywhere near that number.
