After we found out yesterday that Consumer Reports put the Toyota Camry back into its top safety pick list, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has now released its Top Safety Pick awards.
IIHS is using new criteria for the awards this year, with tested vehicles needing to achieve good performance in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restrain test, and for the first time they need to achieve good or acceptable performance in the small overlap front test introduced last year.

And there are no less than four Toyota vehicles being nominated to offer top notch safety standards.

Starting with the tougher Top Safety Pick+, in the small cars category, the Toyota Prius (built after November 2013) rules along with the Honda Civic 4-door and Mazda3 (built after October 2013), while the Toyota Highlander was the only vehicle chosen for the midsize SUV class.

Moving to the standard Top Safety Pick award, the Scion tC that got picket for the small cars category, while the Toyota Camry (built after November 2013) was placed in the midsize moderately priced cars section.
