It was quite the way to start a morning for Maria Menounos, mostly known for her celebrity shows hosted on E! Entertainment, on Thursday morning when she had her car attacked. The 36-year old TV star and her team were driving to work when the rear-window of their car suddenly exploded. Initially thought to be a gun shooting, it turned out the car was hit with a tire iron.
It would seem that being famous is not that safe anymore. The incident happened Thursday morning as the team was heading to work in New York City. Even though it seemed like that, it turns out it was not a crazy sniper who opened fire, but rather a weird, yet dangerous attack.
Shards of glass went flying through the car because someone threw a tire iron through the rear window. Fortunately nobody was injured, but it’s still unclear if someone actually threw the tool or if it was just road debris.
“OMG this just happened. Huge explosion thought we got shot… Now we think someone approached the car in traffic and blew out our window,” Menounos quoted next to the picture she posted on Instagram, minutes after the incident happened. There is obviously an ongoing police investigation, so we’ll let you known in case the attacker is found.
Menounos is known in the U.S. for her appearances as a TV correspondent for Toyda, Access Hollywood, Extra, and abroad for co-hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 in Athens, Greece. This May, Maria signed a multi-year contract with E! Entertainment to host and produce several programs.
