Toyota Yaris TR Launched

Japanese manufacturer Toyota recently launched the TR version of its Yaris model, a version which joins the range below the top-of-the-line T-Spirit. The car is already available in the United Kingdom through Toyota's authorized dealership network at prices starting from 10,280 pounds (12,000 euros).

As for the equipment it boasts, the Yaris TR comes with 15-inch alloy wheels as standard, a six-speaker audio system and leather-trimmed steering wheel and stick shift. A 715-pound optional safety pack is also available comprising features such as vehicle stability control and traction control.

It will be offered with multiple engine options, including 1.0-liter VVT-i, 1.33-liter VVT-i or 1.4-liter D-4D engine.

"Yaris TR is in a different class from the competition, offering air conditioning, electric door mirrors and alloy wheels as standard. So it's exceptionally well-equipped and it looks great. Plus, its high safety specification means you can enjoy its superiority with complete confidence, wherever you go. With lower CO2 emissions than its contemporaries and great fuel economy, it's a car full of positives," Toyota UK said on its official website.

Toyota Yaris is one of the models will be also receive a hybrid powertrain to compete with Honda's Insight. The Yaris Hybrid is projected to arrive sometime in 2011 according to a report by the Japanese newspaper Nikkei.

"We are developing a low-priced hybrid vehicle like Honda's Insight," Akihiko Otsuka, chief engineer of the redesigned, third-generation Toyota Prius said. "We are going to compete by expanding our hybrid-vehicle lineup to smaller hybrids, in the class of the Vitz and Yaris," he said without providing details on the official launch date.
