The new Camry that comes with “everything you’ve ever wanted” has finally left its mark in the US, as a surprising jump in demand for the mid-size has helped Toyota on its way to recovery. In January, combined sales o Toyota, Lexus and Scion models increased to 124,540 vehicles.
The Camry is mainly responsible for this, as demand grew by 56 percent for the popular mid-size. The encouraging news is that younger buyers came as well, flocking to the sportier SE trim level.
“Demand for the SE model continues to top the Camry lineup and we could have sold more in January if we had them. So we’re adjusting our SE production mix in order to better meet customer demand in the months ahead, going from about 8 percent for the previous generation Camry, to more than 40 percent for the current production mix,” says Toyota division VP and General Manager Bob Carter.
