Toyota TS030 and Ferrari 458 GTE - Massive Crash at LeMans

Some people may not realize the full extent of aerodynamics and how they are the only thing keeping our modern racing cars on the track at the bewildering speeds achieved today. However, once the downforce created by the clever aerodynamics is disrupted, the driver will lose control of the car, and there’s a good chance it will take to the sky.
At this year’s edition of the LeMans 24 Hour race, a few drivers crashed, as one would expect, but the most spectacular crash of all took place when a Ferrari 458 GTE, driven by Piergiuseppe Perazzini did not let the Toyota TS030, driven by Anthony Davidson get by, and the two cars made contact.

The Toyota flew clear off the ground, only to land in the tire wall, just outside the track, followed by the Ferrari which had caused the crash. This is not a singular happening, as last year’s venue was host to an even more spectacular, yet similar crash, when another 458 forced Alan McNish’s Audi to go wide, then into the gravel trap which launched his car into the air, only to land and break into thousands of pieces on the track’s exterior guardrail.

The 2011 crash, for those who may not remember it.
