Toyota to Take the Wraps Off Gs Performance Division

Currently involved in what seems to be one of the world's largest recalls ever, Toyota is also preparing to launch its own performance unit that will be responsible of creating performance-oriented Toyota models. According to insideline.com, the in-house tuning division will wear the Gs nameplate and will launch the first models this year.

The Gs department will work together with several other companies, including Modelista for exterior styling improvements, TRD for some parts and Gazoo Racing for the final touches and testing.

Just as we told you some time ago, Toyota prepared the debut of the Gs performance division since the Tokyo Auto Salon, with both the FT-86 Concept G Sports and the Prius G Sports Concept showing the world that the Japanese manufacturer can also step into the tuning world.

"The Gs series is designed for customers who strongly desire to own a unique vehicle, offering them a personalized interior and exterior design along with sports-driving performance. TMC has directly designed this sports conversion series, instead of the conventional approach of outsourcing development to a customization firm," the company said in a statement in January.

The Gs performance division will attempt to attract a larger segment of buyers, as the unit will offer several types of customization. This way, every type of buyer will be able to choose the tuning package that perfect fits his requirements, leftlanenews.com reported.

Meanwhile, we're still waiting to find out the way Toyota is planning to get out of the huge recall it is currently involved in and the market strategy it will adopt to lure buyers into its Gs performance models after such a serious safety issue.
