The best way to diversify and increase sales for a sportscar model is to make a convertible model as well. From the Audi TT to the Corvette and Viper, this seems to be the accepted industry norm.
Rumor has it that when Toyota and Subaru began work on the sportscar we know today as the GT 86/FR-S/BRZ, they envisioned it the body to take a convertible form as well.
It seems those rumours were not unfounded. Toyota has officially acknowledged the existing of the project by showing us a teaser sketch for the FT 86 Open Concept that will be shown at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
Toyota says it "previews a possible future development of the award-winning GT86 sports coupe." This is PR talk for, "we can build it if you'll buy it."
Interestingly, the car seems t have kept its 2+2 layout it had as a coupe, which is strange considering you could barely fit in those seats when there was no folding roof in the way.
