Not long ago, I was lamenting how automakers have become so greedy for attention that we sometimes have to wait years for the actual sales release of their new models.
Some carmakers start the teaser campaign so early they end up presenting the model's numerous features when the prototypes are still clad in heavy camouflage and have many more miles to go before testing concludes. An excellent example of that would be Skoda, but it's just one of many.

Other automakers reveal the first images of their new models with absolutely no specifications or details attached to them – just look at Kia and Hyundai, for instance. The 2024 Santa Fe mid-size crossover SUV is boxy and cool, and we have already spotted it on the streets, but no one knows its secrets (powertrains, trims, performance), actually.

And a few, ahem – Ford – ahem, present the models, and then we wait months or years for their actual release. For example, a direct competitor of the 2024 Santa Fe (which is now, again, a three-row family CUV) is the first-ever 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander. Officially presented early in February, it only took the Japanese automaker almost half a year to kick off production of the highly anticipated model – but that doesn't mean the crossover SUV is available at nationwide dealerships just yet.

On August 2, Toyota Indiana celebrated the start of production of the 2024 Grand Highlander – which will share the fruits of a significant $803 million local investment to produce two all-new SUVs. One is a Toyota, of course, and we bet the other is none other than its sibling – the 2024 Lexus TX that was announced in June during the same official event with the 2024 Lexus GX 550.

Additionally, along with announcing the start of production for 2024 Grand Highlander CUVs, Toyota also revealed "a five-year, multimillion-dollar commitment to help create limitless possibilities for Indiana schools." Through its Toyota USA Foundation, there are Driving Possibilities grants of up to $11.1 million for students aiming toward future science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers.

"Toyota is always looking to the future by introducing new products like the Grand Highlander and innovative community initiatives like Driving Possibilities," said Toyota Indiana president Leah Curry. "Driving Possibilities sets the foundation for powerful learning experiences to prepare area students for future STEM careers."

Speaking of the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander, the family-oriented crossover SUV "featuring the latest technology, a spacious, adult-sized third row, and plenty of cargo space for family adventures" will face an uphill battle against models like Ford's Explorer, Dodge's Durango, Kia Sorento, Mazda CX-90, Subaru Ascent, Honda Pilot, and Hyundai's remarkably-designed 2024 Santa Fe. For what it's worth, pricing starts at $43,070 (plus $1,395 destination) compared to a regular $36,620 Highlander.
