Toyota Starts 1.4l D-4D Engine Production in Poland

Toyota announced that it has debuted the production of the new-generation 1.4 liter diesel engine in Poland.

The unit comes to the world via the Toyota Motor Industries Poland plant, alongside the 2.0 liter and 2.2 liter D-4D powerplants. The target production volume has been set at a level of 70,000 units per year.

Quality is one of the key management points in our plant. The efforts we have made towards quality improvement over the last few years let us achieve one of the highest levels among the Toyota manufacturing plants located outside of Japan in FY 2009. In May 2010, we were honoured to receive the “Overseas Plant Quality Award” from Toyota Motor Corporation,” said Mr Hirotaka Morishita, President TMIP,

The 1.4 liter D-4D units produced in Poland will be supplied to the company’s production sites in the UK, France Turkey and South Africa. The engines will be used for the European-produced Auris and Yaris, as well as for the South-African produced Corolla.

"Our investments in Poland and, more specifically, TMIP’s clean diesel engines, play a crucial role in supporting Toyota’s environmental efforts while providing our European customers with innovative and superior quality products. To tackle the environmental challenges of CO2 reduction and air quality, we aim to progress towards the ultimate eco-car - a car with zero emissions,” said Mr Hiroyuki Ochiai, Executive Vice-President Toyota Motor Europe

The engine comes with innovative CO2 reduction technologies, such new piezo injectors, enhanced Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler efficiency and a stainless steel exhaust manifold with an optional Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).
