The 2013 Consumer Electronics Electronics Show, which has started today, and lasts until Friday 11 January, is the venue chosen by Toyota to show off what they are calling the most advanced vehicle of its type in the world. Based on the latest Lexus LS, the car is packed with the most advanced active safety gadgets they could get their hands on.
Mark Templin, General Manager of the Lexus Division, stated: “In our pursuit of developing more advanced automated technologies, we believe the driver must be fully engaged [ . . . ] For Toyota and Lexus, a driverless car is just a part of the story. Our vision is a car equipped with an intelligent, always-attentive co-pilot whose skills contribute to safer driving.

It features all sorts of sensors, antennae, cameras and very advanced software, all of which work together to ‘see’ everything that’s going around the car, so that it doesn`t crash into anything, ever! The sensors are so powerful, that it can even detect and recognize objects from 492 feet or 150 meters away.

It seems that after Google and Audi, Toyota will be the third company, and second automaker, to get permission to test out their vehicles on US public roads, probably in Nevada.
