Toyota Recalls Land Cruiser 150 and Lexus GX 460 in Europe

Following the announcement made earlier today that Japanese carmaker Toyota is recalling 9,400 2010 GX 460 in the US to fix a problem with the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system, the recall has expanded to Europe as well, where Toyota said it is recalling 7,500 units of Toyota Land Cruiser 150 (Prado) and Lexus GX 460.

Toyota reminds drivers the cars are still safe to operate under normal driving conditions. Vehicles equipped with the optional Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System may however slide out in the event of a sharp turn of the steering wheel at high speed.

According to Toyota, the affected models in Europe are all left-hand drive versions, meaning the UK-based vehicles are not subject to the recall. Customers, most of them located in Eastern Europe, will be notified personally in the coming days.

The new recall was initiated after Consumer Reports (CR) magazine tested the Lexus GX 460 and found it has a tendency to slide an roll. In a very rare seen act, CR issued a "don't buy" recommendation for the vehicle, prompting Toyota into taking action.

"From the moment we heard about this issue, Lexus and our dealers acted quickly to resolve the situation. Our dealers will now personally reach out to customers to set up appointments to make this modification. Lexus has always been about providing exemplary customer satisfaction and this will be another opportunity to demonstrate that,” Mark Templin, Lexus US vice president and general manager said in a release earlier today.
