Like it was expected from an airbag-related fault that affects Toyota vehicles, the culprit on this occasion is the Takata Corporation and a lot of sub-standard front passenger airbag inflators. Based on testing by the supplier, Toyota says that certain areas such as southern Florida, Hawaii, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands appear to warrant immediate action.

Why you might ask? Well, this follow-up campaign of the April 2013 and June 2014 Takata airbag recalls is laden with inflators that are underperforming in high humidity conditions. Fortunately, Toyota has received no reports of injuries or fatalities related to cars that were equipped with this batch of airbags. Speaking of which, these cars are 2001 - 2004 model year Toyota Corolla, Matrix, Sequoia SUV and Tundra pickup truck, as well as the posh Lexus SC.

Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., also announced that all known owners of the affected Toyota and Lexus vehicles will be notified by first class mail beginning this week to return their vehicles to a dealership. The fix is represented by replacing the old, potentially dangerous unit with a new airbag inflator.
