Japanese automaker Toyota has announced that the Toyota Matrix has been discontinued for the 2014 model year after about a decade on the market.
Developed under a joint venture between Toyota and General Motors, along with its Pontiac Vibe twin, the Matrix will be dropped from the manufacturer’s North American lineup once the 2013 model year is over. At the time of writing, there’s no word on whether or not the Matrix will get a replacement in the US and Canada.
The Toyota Matrix was introduced in 2002 as a Corolla-derived hatchback. Production of the second-generation Matrix, based on the tenth generation Corolla, commenced in 2008. The hatchback is being built by Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada in Cambridge, Ontario, and sold on the US, Mexican and Canadian markets.
The Matrix was part of Toyota’s series of recalls regarding floor mat and accelerator replacement back in 2009-2011.
