Toyota today announced that it will come to next year’s Le Mans race with a new petrol-hybrid racer. In fact, the automotive producer will compete in the 2012 FIA World Endurance Championship.
The LMP1 prototype we are talking about is being created by Toyota Motorsport and will be put together by Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan. The vehicle should debut testing by the end of the current year or early in 2012. Toyota’s team will be located at the carmaker’s tech center in Cologne, Germany.
"We aim to learn from the experience of competing in such a challenging motorsport environment to enhance our production car technology. Le Mans is a legendary race and I would like to thank the ACO and the FIA for their constructive and positive cooperation over the last few months," said Tadashi Yamashina, Toyota Motor Corporation senior managing officer and Toyota Motor Group chairman.
