Toyota has announced two voluntary recalls for North America, consisting of about 235,000 Toyota and Lexus crossovers and sedans built between 2006 and 2011.
More than half of them, approximately 133,000, are 2006-2010 Toyota Highlander Hybrid and 2006-2008 Lexus RX 400h crossovers. According to the company, “transistors within the hybrid system’s inverter assembly can experience heat damage” and cause various warning lights to illuminate or, in some case, shut down the hybrid system and stop de car.
The other 102,000 units, which include 2006-2011 Lexus IS 350, IS 350C, and GS 350 models, are being recalled due to loose bolts on the variable valve timing controller that can cause the engine to stop while driving.
Toyota reports no crashes or injuries related to these issues, but says owners of these vehicles will be notified via first class mail. Customers may also get in touch with Toyota’s Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331.
