Toyota Kicks Off Prius Facebook Contest

As most of you already know by now, Japanese manufacturer Toyota is celebrating this year 10 years since its Prius hybrid entered the US and made history. Among the celebrations prepared for the event, Toyota is also setting up a Facebook contest.

The grand prize, if it can be called that, is the honor for whoever will win the competition to host the official 10 Years of Toyota Prius Anniversary Celebration, a ceremony which will take place in the winner's home town.

To have a shot at winning, those interested must submit a photo or video on this Facebook page in which they must “demonstrate the Prius passion.” Submissions can be entered until August 13, with the winner to be announced on August 31. The 10 Years of Toyota Prius Anniversary Celebration takes place on October 10.

“In 2000, the Prius debuted modestly in the U.S. marketplace. Since that time, the Prius has become the leader of an industry-wide shift towards lower emissions and greater fuel efficiency, the exemplar of environmentally-conscious technological innovation,”
Toyota said when announcing the competition.

“As a result, this car with the singularly recognizable silhouette has attracted a uniquely loyal customer base, a true community of shared pride and purpose.”

The hybrid has been on sale in Japan since 1997, being the world's first mass produced hybrid and becoming in a very short time the best selling Toyota in its home country. This July, the Prius became the best selling vehicle of any make in Japan for the 14th consecutive month.

In 2000, the hybrid was also launched on the European market, where it enjoyed a relatively low to moderate success.
