Toyota Etios Launched in India

As promised ever since this fall, Japanese manufacturer Toyota launched today the Etios model on the Indian market, a model specifically designed for the local market. And it should really be a hit, as Toyota said it spent no less than five years and countless hours of its engineering time to create it.

The car has been introduced onto the market with a 1.5l petrol engine which develops 90 ps and 132Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm. A smaller 1.2l engine is also being considered as a good choice for the model.

The car comes equipped with just about everything a middle-class consumer would need in terms of safety and features. The car is equipped with steering wheel with integrated audio controls, Electronic Power Steering (EPS) with tilt function, SRS airbags and Anti-Lock Breaking System (ABS) with EBD.

"The all-new Etios reflects our determination to serve an even-broader range of customers here with genuine Toyota quality," TMC president Akio Toyoda was quoted as saying by just-auto.com at the launch event.

According to Etios chief engineer Yoshinori Noritake, the leader of the group of 2,000 engineers Toyota says have worked on the project, the Etios has been purpose built with the Indian consumers in mind.

“It was very important to understand the needs of Indian car buyers before designing an India specific car. We learnt that Indian customers are very price conscious but at the same time want space and comfort for their family, and style to enhance their status,”
the chief engineer said.

"One of the strong points of the Etios sedan is its true sedan design – designed on a sedan platform and not as a hatch with a boot – smart packaging that makes it compact at the same time spacious.”
