Toyota Adds 800 Temporary Workers

Things are going pretty well for Toyota in the domestic market as the company is experiencing a significant growth in Japan, mostly thanks to the government stimulus programs. As a result, Toyota is looking to increase its workforce by adding 800 temporary workers in Japan that would help it cope with the growing demand in the country.

Obviously, production of several models will be increased as well, with the flagship Prius to benefit from Toyota's new move. The Prius was the best-selling model in Japan for three consecutive months between June and August.

"Car sales both in Japan and overseas are gradually recovering, helped by government incentives and tax cuts introduced this spring," Toyota said in a statement today according to Bloomberg.

Toyota is experiencing a significant growth in the US as well, with August bringing a 32.4 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year. Such a boost is obviously the result of the Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS) established in the US, which helped the Japanese carmaker sell a total of 225,088 vehicles.

“In addition to increased sales, the CARS program provided tangible benefits to consumers, dealers and industry-related businesses, as well as state and local economies, in the form of sales tax and registration income,” said Jim Lentz, president and chief operating officer for TMS.

“Toyota vehicles accounted for 19.4 percent of sales within the CARS program, but we estimate CARS-related Toyota sales account for 32.1 percent of total fuel savings for the CARS program, saving customers an estimated 31 million gallons of gas and over $77.5 million in fuel spending over the next year.”
