Timo Glock Loses Race Engineer ahead of German GP

Getting a job in Formula One doesn't seem like that big of a deal nowadays, if we are to judge by the latest news from within the F1 paddock. Following the surprising departure of Geoff Willis from his position as technical director of Red Bull Racing the other day, Toyota's Timo Glock will also tackle the German Grand Prix without his retired race engineer.

The German driver confirmed that he will no longer work with race engineer Francesco Nenci for the remainder of the 2009 season, after the Italian decided to quit the Cologne based outfit for good.  Juan Pablo Ramirez, who has formerly worked with Toyota's testing team, will replace Nenci.

He made a very good impression on me during the winter, but tests are not race weekends,” said Glock about his new engineer in an interview with Germany's Auto Motor und Sport.

However, the Toyota driver admitted that he is very disappointed with Nenci's departure, as he was getting along great with his former race engineer. Apparently, the Italian left the team due to disagreements with Toyota's technical management.

I was very content with the cooperation with my engineer. He understood me completely. When I told him something about the car, he knew immediately what I wanted,” added Glock.

In other news, the German confirmed he will wear a one-off designed helmet during the Nurburgring weekend. The design was the result of a Panasonic ‘Kids School' competition, open to school children throughout Germany from the ages of five to 17. The competition was won by 6-year-old Tom Luca Hoffmann from Bad Lippspringe, around 400km north east of the Nürburgring.
