Venture Global is not only diligently working on a massive plan of "world domination" for US-made LNG (liquefied natural gas) but also planning to cut the middlemen and deliver gas with its own vessels. This fleet of brand-new carriers is being built as we speak.
LNG is becoming a buzzword in maritime transportation. While radical new ship designs and renewable energy sources are considered to be the long-term solution for emission-free maritime transportation, LNG is widely seen as the best alternative for fast, effective changes. We're seeing more and more ferries, cruise ships, and all kinds of other ships switching to LNG in order to lower emission levels.

In shipping, operators are also exploring the potential of LNG for their biggest carriers and tankers. All of this indicated that LNG production should be on the rise and should be seen as a key asset for domestic industries. Venture Global is determined to take US LNG production to the highest level it can get. It's innovating liquefaction processes in the US by replacing the traditional, large-scale factories with mid-scale, modular designs.

The LNG company's most recent strategy is even more innovative. Venture Global acquired nine vessels, which, once completed, will be part of a brand-new LNG carrier fleet. This makes Venture Global the first LNG producer in America to also own and operate an entire fleet of carriers. This is basically a way to eliminate the intermediaries from the supply chain and to establish a full-scale, streamlined LNG process all the way from production to delivery.

For now, the LNG company has shared only a few details about the new ships. There will be nine of them in total, with three boasting a maximum capacity of 200,000 cubic meters. As next-generation carriers, these vessels will combine the latest innovations in hull design with state-of-the-art engines and best-in-class environmental technologies.

Venture Global even claims that its new fleet will boast the top fuel efficiency available for LNG carriers at the moment. Most of that is owed to the latest two-stroke MEGA/MEGI engines that are said to drastically reduce methane slip compared to the previous-generation engines for these types of ships. Burning natural gas instead of conventional maritime fuel will also enable future vessels to cut CO2 emissions by almost 25% and lower nitrogen and sulfur oxides even more.

The vessels are currently being built in South Korea (the shipyard hasn't been officially disclosed), with the first delivery expected before the end of this year. Once in operation, this could become the best-in-class cargo LNG fleet to transport US-made natural gas.

Another American company, Crowley Maritime, was linked to the biggest LNG bunker barge in the US a couple of years ago. We can expect more projects like these in the industry, with the shared goal of advancing the use of LNG as a greener alternative to fuel.
