Carmakers are your best friends. And they’re highly trained too, so whenever you feel like you need something, you can just turn to them. It’s just that they’ll blow a gigantic hole in your pocket for each and every optional extra they offer. But hey, it’s all about catering to your needs right?
Let’s take Ferrari, for example. We want to talk about a 458 Italia, a model that has now been replaced - see? you can’t even say we’re mean, since we’re talking about a car that’s no longer around.

The 458 in the video below, which comes from Goowood Road and Racing, had a price of GBP178,000, on top of which we find optional extras worth GBP100,000 - as you know, car prices can’t be translated using currency rates, but given how much of a black hole a Prancing Horse optional extras list can be, the sum in the title above isn’t that much of an exaggeration.

The perspective

A hundred grand are a lot of money, even when you’re into go-fast machines. For one thing, you could buy a Mercedes-AMG C63 and a Caterham track toy for this kind of cash. But let’s see what happens when you decide to inject it into a V8-powered Ferrari. We’ll go though the main money-eating bits on this car below.

Aside from its halo cars, such as the LaFerrari, Maranello still only uses carbon fiber like a spice when building its cars, with the main ingredient being aluminum. Still, you can have all the CF you want on the exterior, interior and even in the engine compartment. And no matter what your supercar is made of, you'll want a special finish on it.

Speaking of the cabin, you’ll probably want to spill leather and Alcantara everywhere and it will cost you. And since you own a Ferrari, you might want to make sure the branding is visible.

With a few exceptions, Ferrari doesn’t charge its clientele for the technical stuff, as its cars come fully packed as far as these bits are concerned. Nevertheless, if you want stuff like a noselift system, parking sensors or swiveling headlights, you’ll need to have a solid bank account. And you usually want this kind of goodies.

For the customers who want to truly turn configuring their Ferraris into a memorable experience, the company has a personalization program. And while they won’t let you have a pink one, they can offer pretty much everything else in terms of colors and materials.
