The Impala nameplate came to be in 1956 when Chevrolet attended GM's motor show with a concept car that caught everybody's attention.
Two years later, General Motors gave the go-ahead to an ambitious project that eventually put Chevrolet back on the automotive map in the United States. Impala debuted in 1958 as the top Bel Air version, gaining series status a year later and slowly but surely becoming the best-selling model in GM's home market.

eBay seller stomp632 has recently posted something on the auction site that you can hardly find these days. They have not one but two 1958 Impalas, both in great shape and with working engines.

The two cars started their comeback as projects but have already received urgent repairs. The red Impala received a processional repaint, so it looks fantastic today. It's been sitting for several years, but thanks to the fixes it received recently, it now features a newer tri-tone interior, good glass, and decent stainless and chrome.

The engine in charge of putting the wheels in motion is a 283 paired with an automatic transmission. It runs and drives, so all signs suggest an easy restoration, though it's unclear if everything on this Impala remains original.

The second Impala is likely the one that'll receive more love from netizens worldwide. Sporting a blue paint with a silver top, the Impala comes with a new trunk pan, but the seller says the car received a factory replacement unit. The lower left quarter has also been replaced, but only some goodies are original.

The interior requires a full overhaul, but this is unsurprising, as this Impala looks like it has also been sitting for some time. What makes it even more intriguing is the engine under the hood.

The car comes with a 348 Tri-Power unit, and the owner says the engine has already been rebuilt and only requires minor touches before being fitted back in the engine bay. Bringing this Impala back to factory specifications will be challenging, so the better option is to go the restomod or hotrod route to save the car.

You can imagine that such a duo can't sell cheap, though the seller has extremely ambitious expectations from the two Impalas. The auction starts at $15,000, but they also configured a reserve, and looking at the Buy It Now price, I believe the bidding must go significantly higher to allow the car to receive a second chance. If you want to trigger the BIN option and get the car without a fight, you must pay no more, no less than $72,000, which is quite a lot for two otherwise solid Impala projects.

The best option is to go check out the cars in person. They are parked in Goodrich, Michigan, waiting for the end of the digital battle on eBay.
