If you happen to find yourself out there on the drag strip and prepared for a quarter mile shenanigan, one the most intense things that can happen is to have a souped-up Beetle lining up next to you.
The footage below brings us just such a story, with a sleeper Beetle taking on its distant sibling. Nevertheless, the race didn’t come out of the blue, as we are talking about a special challenge taken on by the boys over at the Mighty Car Mods Youtube channel.

The boys grabbed a 1974 Volkswagen Beetle and set themselves the goal to reach ten times the original power. The showed respect to the boxer engine pathway, going for a Subaru EJ25 engine. They turbocharged 2.5-liter mill, which came out of a Forester, was gifted with tons of aftermarket goodies, such as forged internals, in order to be able to withstand a decent amount of boost.

As a result, the post-swap Beetle managed to churn out 359 hp (364 PS) during a dyno adventure, so the guys were forced few with confidence.

Since they so far away from the original Beetle’s 22s quarter mile time, the boys took the Vee Dub to the drag strip. One thing led to another and they ended up racing against each other.

The 911 model used was a 996-generation base Carrera model, a sportscar that can pull low 13-second quarter mile passes. By the way, if you don't have the time/patience to watch the build unfold, you can skip to the 40:30 point for the in-family race.

For the record, we’ll mention the quickest Bettle in the world (that’s still street-legal) is a machine that can deliver stunning low 8s passes. We’ve prepared a second video below, allowing you to see it in action.

The Bettle isn’t exactly driven on the boost and both pieces of German metal skip some mandatory drag racing steps, the race remains an entertaining one. Now where did we put that spanner?
