Toyota just can't stop throwing good news at the fans of the 4Runner. With 24 hours to go until the official unveiling, they also find out that the model is getting a Trailhunter version.
Toyota will unveil the new-generation 4Runner on Tuesday, April 9, at 7:15 PM Pacific Daylight Time. But before that happens, the automaker still has news to spread. The lineup will also include a Trailhunter version, which is expected to become the favorite of the off-road enthusiasts.

If the new Tacoma pickup is anything to go by, then customers should expect a raised ground clearance and 33-inch Goodyear all-terrain tires, among other goodies. The 2.5-inch Old Man Emu forged monotone shocks with remote reservoirs, skid plates, and a steel rear bumper should also be on the menu.

Toyota knows that whoever buys a 4Runner might be interested in taking it off the tarmac. So, the carmaker is confirming it by uploading a photo to social media to show the "Trailhunter" capital lettering and the logo of the trim.

The sixth-generation 4Runner will be underpinned by Toyota's TGNA-F platform. It is the architecture that every single SUV and pickup truck in the carmaker's lineup is based on, with the Tacoma, Sequoia, Tundra, and Land Rover included. The Lexus GX and LX are also built on the TGNA-F.

That is exactly why the body-on-frame SUV will share the engine lineup with the Tacoma. Therefore, customers will get the 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine as standard, with output rated between 228 and 278 horsepower. The i-Force hybrid should also be part of the lineup as the range-topping version, sporting 326 horsepower. We have yet to see if Toyota will roll out a TRD Pro version of the 4Runner.

The news drops just four days after Toyota's latest teaser, previewing the arrival of the SUV. A short video uploaded to Instagram confirmed what the fans of the model had been hoping for. The sixth-generation 4Runner is carrying over a traditional feature: the roll-down window.

The same video teaser showed that the new generation will also receive a large tablet-style touchscreen, which should be the 14-inch display that the Tacoma is equipped with.

There is no word on pricing just yet. But most likely, the model is going to turn out more expensive, coming with a price to match al the updates. The current generation, which has been on the market for 15 years, starts at $41,850.

We will find out more tomorrow, April 9, when Toyota reveals the 4Runner in all its glory. Roll-down window included. The automaker is counting on the popularity that kept the current generation alive on the market for a whole 15 years. There are already 33,823 examples registered worldwide in 2024.
