A mother of 5 from Texas is the very definition of badass, after she managed to deliver her fifth child on her own, in the passenger seat of the family car, as her husband was speeding to the hospital.
Alexis Swinney says she always thought her fifth child, a daughter, would come into the world with more of a bang than her siblings. However, she didn’t expect something like to happen, she admits in an interview with the McKinney Courier Gazette.

She and her husband (and their kids) has just been to see the midwife ahead of the September 14 estimated date of birth, when her water broke. She knew from her other children that this meant she would bring the child into the world very soon, that her labor wouldn’t last long. So she decided to give birth right there, as her husband sped to the hospital.

She got with her knees on the passenger seat, facing the other kids, and her husband filmed the entire thing. The video has been uploaded to Swinney’s Instagram account, if you feel you have the stomach for it.

“I had a moment where I was kind of scared because I didn’t know if I was feeling her butt or her head. Once I could feel it was her head then I was like, ‘Oh yea, I’m about to deliver my baby… I got this,’” Swinney tells the publication.

And she did have it. She gave birth to a healthy baby girl and made it to the hospital in time to have doctors sever the cord and do a proper checkup on both the child and the mother. They are now both resting.

Her husband admits that he was probably not “driving fast enough” since they were minutes away from the hospital but she still delivered in the car. Perhaps the fact that he was also filming the entire thing slowed him down.

While Swinney couldn’t have avoided assuming that position in the car since she was about to give birth, the husband (aka designated driver) should have known better than to add to the element of danger by filming the birth. He would have been better off keeping both hands on the wheel and paying full attention to the road.
