Tata Uses Laser Manufacturing Technology in India

Tata has upgraded its vehicle manufaturing technologies in India, as the company has inaugurated a new laser scouring facility at its interiors and plastic division plant located at Chinchwad, Pune.

This technology is a premiere for India and will allow the carmaker to reduce production costs by simplifying the airbag flaps construction process.

Laser Scouring is a technology that uses a laser to create integrated pre-weakened lines for air bags on the rear side of the dashboard elements. This creates tapped blind holes in a row, allowing the part to break open in case of an accident, when the air bag is deployed.

With the awareness of passenger safety increasing, increasing number of vehicles (will) offer airbags. With the availability of laser scouring in India, (automotive producers) get the benefit of better design and finish,” Tata AutoComp Systems executive director & COO, RS Thakur, was quoted as saying by just-auto.

(The technology) has been adapted and used by all leading auto OEMs and we anticipate a huge demand from both domestic and global OEMs based in India,” the company’s President and business group head, Arvind Goel, added.

Tata AutoComp Systems Limited offers products and services in the automotive industry to Indian and global customers. These include BMW, Mercedes-benz, Fiat, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Renault, Man Trucks, Piaggio, SKoda, Mazda and others. The company manufactures a wide range of products, including Interior and exterior plastic products, kinematic plastic parts, batteries, seating systems, radiators, wiring harneses, commercial vehicles suspension systems, sheet metal components and vehicle tracking solutions.
