In the world of BMW tuning there are two different major categories: the European branch and the US branch. It’s hardly a surprise as up until recently, the USA was the second largest BMW market, after Europe.
However, there’s a strict difference between the two. While Europeans have companies like AC Schnitzer, Alpina and Hartge in their corner, the Americans can only rely on one big name: Dinan.
The legend says that back in 1979, after working in various shops and learning all about BMWs there was to know, Steve Dinan decided to open his own company and take the Bavarian cars to a whole new level.
That’s how Dinan Engineering came to life, the most important BMW tuner in the US and one of the best in the world, at the moment. The guys from Motor Trend headed over to the headquarters of the company to speak to the main man himself.
Steve, being an extremely outgoing guy, spent the better part of a day talking about how he started the business, how he ended up loving the blue and white roundel and what plans he has for the future.
At the moment, the company is working on a next-level F10 M5 that will be making 670 HP and 600 lb-ft (813 Nm) of torque out of the 4.4-liter V8 under the bonnet. According to Steve, it’s going to be absolutely crazy to drive. Check out what he had to say!
