Sutil In 7th Heaven after Maiden F1 Points

Adrian Sutil could have scored his maiden podium in Formula One had he managed to perform a good entrance to the pits during his second stop on Sunday. The German driver was late on the brakes and almost injured one of his mechanics, but his pit crew eventually managed to get him outside the box right behind Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.

Had this unfortunate incident not occurred, the German would have probably rejoined the track ahead of the Ferrari driver and we would have had a heck of a battle in the late stages of the race. Also, with Hamilton crashing into the wall in the final lap of the race, this would have proved a battle for the podium in the end.

All of that didn't happen, however, as Raikkonen managed to top the German at the pits and never let go of his position until the end. Nevertheless, there was little that could stop Sutil from expressing his immense joy after the Italian Grand Prix, as the 26-year old finally got to score his first ever points in Formula One.

“Going into my second stop we had a chance to overtake him (Raikkonen) in the pit lane and I was pushing really hard but I was a bit late on the brakes into the box. I think I have to say sorry to the mechanics for going a bit wide! But still they did a great job there,” said Sutil, remembering his mistake in the last part of the race.

“The race pace overall was very good but finally the one-stop strategy worked better than the two-stop. All the same we scored a lot of points and I am really, really happy for myself and all of the team at the track and back in the factory and wind tunnel,” added the German driver.

Aside from scoring his maiden points in F1, Sutil also recorded his best ever qualifying position in career. The German finished the Saturday qualifying session in 2nd place, after being dethroned from 1st place in the dying seconds by McLaren's Lewis Hamilton.
